This week, Mike and Maya chat about party planning. We share our reflections on the Fyre Festival as well as the phenomenal (if we do say so ourselves!) baby shower for Maya’s sister Chaya, brother-in-law Russ, and their Baby Girl Mohn. One aspect of the disastrous festival we discuss is the subsequent class action law suit filed against the festival planners. This is a *very* interesting read, especially the social media pictures that illustrate the conditions. Here’s an excerpt:
The festival’s lack of adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care created a dangerous and panicked situation among attendees—suddenly finding themselves stranded on a remote island without basic provisions—that was closer to “The Hunger Games” or “Lord of the Flies” than Coachella. Festival-goers survived on bare rations, little more than bread and a slice of cheese, and tried to escape the elements in the only shelter provided by Defendants: small clusters of “FEMA tents,” exposed on a sand bar, that were soaked and battered by wind and rain.
See? Entertaining.
Fyre festival was clearly lacking some party planning prowess, which, to Maya and her family, comes quite naturally. The Mohan sisters love crafting and throwing parties and making stuff with their hands (see their occasionally-updated website…we have lots of dreams for this site LOL!) Our dear friends hosted this party at their gorgeous home and it was wonderful to enjoy this special occasion with so many family and friends. There were lots of games (not lame ones!), delicious food and drink, fun and colorful handmade decor, and best of all – the cutest baby bump ever!
You will have to listen to the episode for more details but we believe the success of this party was due to being organized (thank you Excel and Google Docs) and planning this party well in advance with the help of talented family and friends.
